Strom Strategies Calls for a Possible “Black Box Warning” on Al Sayed’s Medicare for All Proposal

Frisco, TX, Oct. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Strom Strategies today called for a detailed public explanation of U.S. Senate candidate Al Sayed’s proposal to expand the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into a Medicare for All plan. The approach is a centerpiece of his campaign, but important questions remain about how it would address the problems he identifies in the nation’s healthcare system.

Dr. Joel Strom, spokesperson for Strom Strategies, is a former president of the California State Dental Board, a National Institutes of Health advisory panelist and former chair of Ethics in Dentistry at the University of Southern California. In a Washington Times article, Strom suggested that the candidate’s proposal may warrant a “Black Box Warning,” akin to warnings used for certain pharmaceutical medications.

Strom said that voters need to remember the unfulfilled promises of “Medicare Light for All, and that the media owes it to voters to evaluate Al Sayed’s specific design and likely impacts, rather than its name or stated aspirations, he said.

“If a candidate argues that the current healthcare system is failing, voters deserve a clear account of why expanding a program he has supported would solve the problems he describes,” said Strom. “A plan of this scale should come with transparent analysis of its costs, coverage, access and effects on patient choice.”

On the campaign trail, Al Sayed has criticized the state of U.S. healthcare while advocating an expansion of the ACA, the framework on which the current system is partly based. Strom said the candidate has not yet explained why expanding a model he has supported would correct the shortcomings he now highlights, or what changes would distinguish the proposed plan from the existing approach.

Reports have also raised questions that Al Sayed’s wife no longer accepts Medicare. While supporting any doctor’s right to practice as he or she wants, Strom said the candidate has not publicly explained the reported decision or how it relates to his support for a Medicare for All proposal. The issue raises a straightforward question: Would all Americans have the same choices as his family does now?

Strom Strategies provides consulting and management services at the intersection of healthcare public policy, politics and practice, as well as educational nonprofit management and consulting. The organization said a substantive account of the plan would help voters make an informed judgment about its implications.
