WYLIE, Texas – September 29, 2026 – Retirement Ready Nation Media announced the October 6, 2026 release of Social Security Demystified: Smarter Claiming Decisions, a new book by Matt Maresch, NSSA®, CLTC®, featuring 62 case studies that illustrate how Social Security rules can affect different family and retirement situations.
The book focuses on the questions people actually face when dealing with Social Security. When should someone claim retirement benefits? How do benefits change for married couples? What happens after a divorce or the death of a spouse? What benefits may be available when a working parent dies and leaves children under age 18? How does disability affect Social Security, and what happens when someone continues working while receiving benefits?
Rather than treating Social Security as a single decision about when to file, Social Security Demystified looks at how claiming age, work history, marriage, divorce, survivor benefits, disability, earnings, and longevity can affect the outcome. The 62 case studies illustrate why two people of the same age can face very different claiming decisions based on their individual and family circumstances.
“Social Security decisions often look simple until the rules begin interacting with each other,” said Maresch. “The goal of this book is to help readers understand what questions to ask, what tradeoffs to consider, and why a claiming decision should be evaluated in the context of the household rather than as an isolated age-based choice.”
The book covers retirement benefit calculations, full retirement age, early claiming reductions, delayed retirement credits, spousal benefits, survivor benefits, divorced spousal benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), benefits for eligible children, working while receiving Social Security, taxation considerations, and how Social Security fits alongside other sources of retirement income.
Each case study takes the rules out of the abstract and puts them into a situation readers can follow. Some examine the effect of filing at different ages. Others look at married couples, surviving spouses, divorced individuals, disability, family benefits, and situations in which someone continues working after claiming Social Security. The examples are educational and are intended to help readers understand which facts can change the analysis before a filing decision is made.
The book also includes access to a complimentary Social Security Demystified Reader Toolkit. The companion resource is designed to help readers evaluate when to claim, understand how different Social Security benefits work together, and prepare for key decisions they may face before filing. The Reader Toolkit is hosted online by Senior Healthcare Planning.
The Kindle edition is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. Beginning October 6, the book will be available in paperback, hardcover, and eBook formats. Print editions will be available through Amazon and can also be ordered by bookstores and other retailers through IngramSpark distribution.
Social Security Demystified is published by Retirement Ready Nation Media, an independent publisher based in Wylie, Texas. The book was edited by Allen Bean, M.Div., Th.M.

He is the founder of Senior Healthcare Planning and Ashbury Boutique Wealth Management. His work focuses on retirement education, Social Security, Medicare planning, and helping individuals understand how healthcare and income decisions fit together as they prepare for retirement.
Maresch said the idea for the book grew out of recurring questions he encountered during retirement conversations and educational workshops. Many of those questions went beyond simply asking what age someone should claim Social Security.
“People want to know what happens to their spouse’s Social Security benefits if they die, what changes after a divorce, what happens if a parent dies while children are still at home, how working affects their benefits, and what options may be available if they become disabled,” Maresch said. “Those are the kinds of questions that led to this book.”
